Jersey Mike's Philly Cheesesteak

Jersey Mike’s is another sandwich shop with multiple locations around Albuquerque. The one near UNM is on Central. Its location is relatively close to Frontier and it shares a building with Chipotle. I would say it is about a five minute walk from the SUB. At Jersey Mike’s, they serve a variety of sandwiches. Most of the sandwiches they serve are cold sandwiches, but they also make Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches. They serve the classic kind with cheese, bell peppers, and onions, as well as a few specialty kinds, such as options with chipotle mayo or jalapeños, as well as a variety of chicken cheese steak options. I decided to order the classic kind, called Mike’s Famous Philly, that comes with grilled onions, peppers, and white American cheese. At Jersey Mike’s they serve sandwiches in three sizes: a 5” Mini, a 7” Regular, and a 14-15” Giant. For the Philly Cheesesteaks, they only serve it in two sizes, Regular and Giant. When getting one of these sandwiches, I recommend asking them to cut it in half. At a Regular size, the sandwich can become a bit difficult to handle. Having it cut in half makes the experience much easier. I would also recommend getting a few napkins, as it can be a bit messy.

At Jersey Mike’s, you can order both in person and online. They also offer several delivery options through services like Grubhub and DoorDash. They also have a rewards system called Shore Points that you can sign up for. I decided to order my sandwich in person. The inside of the store is very similar to that of a Subway store. There is a counter where the sandwiches are made, a small area to get drinks, and a few places to sit and eat. There are not many places to sit inside, with maybe 5-7 tables that could sit two people each. While it was not busy when I was there, I would recommend taking an order to-go if you are with a group, as the store is not designed as a sit-down restaurant.

Overall, ordering was an easy experience. There was no trouble with placing my order, and the people working there were pleasant and friendly. They would welcome customers in the store and tell them goodbye when they left. When getting a sandwich to go, they twist the brown paper bag it comes in, which makes carrying it much easier.

The Philly Cheesesteak itself was very good. If you need to travel a bit after you order the sandwich, I would not worry too much about it getting cold. When I ordered the sandwich, they made it fresh on the spot, so when I first unwrapped the sandwich, it was piping hot. Because it was still fresh, the cheese was still warm and gooey. I would recommend giving it a little time to cool down, as some of the peppers and onions were too hot to eat. The ingredients all tasted fresh as well. Overall, I would recommend this sandwich, especially as the weather gets cooler with the approach of fall.
